“Coliving”, that’s how they call it. Still quite low-key in Europe compared to other emerging ideas, this concept was born in the United States of America and brought to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. The concept is quite seducing: mixing up Flat-Sharing, Coworking and meeting new people. while keeping its attractiveness and accessibility and enjoying the services and the quality of life that you can have staying in a hotel, at home or at your grandmother’s house for example.
Coliving: Born in the U.S.A.
“Coliving”, as in “living together” with a little bit of coworking added to the mix originally saw the light of day in the United States. Some say it was on the East Coast (in the New York area), others insist that the birth of “Coliving” was on the West Coast (in San Francisco or Los Angeles). As written above, the concept is seducing: you eat, you sleep, you work with like-minded people that are fueled by the same excitement and desire in creating new things in a friendly and motivating environment. Either way, the common denominator is simple: Big cities. They created the need of the concept of Coliving, and if it worked in the US, it shall work on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, and the other side of the Pacific Ocean.
An emerging worldwide business
While some people have a need to be able to have a workplace and a place to live in big cities, others have added holiday-like or discover new cultures value to the concept and you can now “colive” in heaven on Earth. Digital Nomads and remote workers alike are now visiting places that are usually defined as holiday getaways. Destinations like Bali, Morocco, the South-east of Asia or the South-west of Europe are emerging Coliving spots that are worth keeping an eye on.. If we focus solely on Europe, the Coliving is growing at a very fast pace, so fast that Switzerland, Portugal, England, Germany are already ranked among the best Coliving places around the world and our bet is on Spain and more specifically Catalonia for the best coliving destination in the coming months!
